| Course Description: |
Food & Nutrition plays an important part in the lives of every New Zealander. The variety of food we are exposed to places us in a position of having to make important decisions daily about what we should and shouldn't eat. This course has been developed to help increase students' understanding of diet, healthy food choices and how they affect our lives. Students will experience food from many countries around the world. They will also learn about the nutritional needs of the body; some of the problems associated with over and under eating; how to produce healthy meals that meet the needs of adolescents.
It is recommended that students who are planning to study Home and Life Science - Food and Life Skills at Year 11 take this full year course. |

| Course Description: |
This is a Unit Standard based course run in conjunction with HIS (Hospitality Standards Institute). It is aimed at students considering a career as a Chef, in food services and/or hospitality. Students are able to begin working towards a National Certificate in Hospitality and/or Cookery that carries over to Year 12. Areas of study include food safety and hygiene, food preparation, cooking of soups, stocks, meats, cakes, seafood, eggs and cheeses. |

| Course Description: |
This course is aimed at students who are considering a career in hospitality. It is a Unit Standards based course that takes its units from industry. It takes the place of two subjects in the students' timetable. This course is run with HIS (Hospitality Standards Institute) and is part of a National Certificate in Hospitality and/or Introductory Cookery. Students will be involved, whenever possible, with catering for functions within the school as well as the running of Café Suavé which helps the students' work towards a certificate in Barista (coffee making using an espresso machine). Students also have the opportunity to gain some credits in business units that are built into the course |
