| Pre-requisite: |
Entry into Year 10 Music is by application, approval by HOD Music. Students MUST be learning an instrument either privately or through the school Itinerant Music Scheme. This is an essential part of the years’ programme. It is a necessary requirement to help students prepare appropriate pieces of music for their performance assessments throughout the year. The Year 10 music course prepares students for NCEA Level 1 in Year 11. The course covers:
* Historical and social aspects of music. * Different styles of music. * Composition. * Music theory. * Aural (listening) skills. * Performance (2 solo and 1 group).
Satisfactory coverage of the above aspects provides students with the Year 10 Music Entrance Qualification which is the recommended standard for entry into the Year 11 (NCEA Level 1) Music Course.
Students will be encouraged to contribute to the musical life of the school in solo or band performances, choir, Jazz Band or in a musical production. |

| Course Description: |
Music at this level of study requires a comprehensive understanding of historical and social contexts, variations in styles, compositional techniques, aural (listening) skills, and performing music. Students are encouraged to contribute to the musical life of the school, eg: in solo or band ensemble performances, music productions, choir, or the Senior or Junior Jazz Bands. |

| Course Description: |
NCEA Level 2 Music continues to develop the skills introduced in NCEA Level 1 Music and requires a comprehensive understanding of historical and social contexts in music, variations in styles, compositional techniques, aural (listening) skills, harmonic analysis, arranging and performing music. The course is designed to prepare students for NCEA Level 3 studies in music and to provide the basis for students to advance their music skills at tertiary study institutions or in professional music vocations. |
