Services Academy

Goal:

By the end of the course to have everyone at the point where they are able to sit and pass the written and physical entrances test for any of the four government services.

Aims:
* To equip each student with the fundamental Literacy and Numeracy skills to not only pass the entrance test but be better prepared to be a member of one of the services.
* For each student to be at a level of fitness where they exceed the basic entry requirements of all services.
* Give each student a basic understanding of the roles responsibilities and function of each service.
* Impart a core understanding of the history each service and their current core values.
* To prepare all students for the expectations and demands of services' basic training and everyday life.
* To make each student a better prepared and more attractive candidate to the service recruiters.

Basic Plan for Onehunga High School Services Academy Structure
* 1st 2 Days - establish goals & expectations, go over aims & ground rules
* 1st 2 weeks - learn how to meet expected standards (esp. personal presentation & marching) and establish a base level of fitness to work from.
* The course involves 4 hours a week of maths and English with the remainder of the time being dedicated to the core classes (consisting of 3 modules - fitness, service knowledge & life skills).
* 1 hour of core skills per week of the core skills will be timetabled for a computer room during which time basic IT skills, typing & word processes, assessment preparation and research will be carried out.
* Once base levels of standards and fitness have been attained then more time in core skills classes will be dedicated to some of the other objectives in the 3 core skills modules.



Subject Name: PRE-SERVICES
Qualification: Prepared for pre- entry examination into government forces.
Achievement Standards and Unit Standards to be confirmed.
Qualification: Onehunga High School Services' Academy is a joint Onehunga High School and Ministry of Social Development initiative, aimed at making a career in the armed forces a more attainable outcome for young people.

Pre-requisite: 6 Level 1 English and Mathematics with a minimum of 50 Level 1 credits in total.
Must pass pre course medical and be able to run continuously for 20 minutes.
