Course Description: Geography is the study of people and the environment. Students are trained in the use of geographic skills such as problem solving, decision making, research and field work techniques and interpreting information from a variety of sources.
The Level 1 course covers:
* Extreme natural events such as Volcanic Eruptions and Tropical Cyclones.
* Population studies in New Zealand and Monsoon Asia.
*The use of Resources in Dairy Farming and Uranium Mining.

* Natural Landscapes; New Zealand and the world's natural landscapes, with case studies of the Tongario Plateau and the Amazon Rainforest.
* Urban Contrasts; contrasting cities from within New Zealand and around the world, with case studies of Singapore and Auckland.
* Development Inequalities; Differences between developed and developing countries, with case studies of Tanzania and the United Kingdom.

Course Description: The Tourism Sector is New Zealand's single largest employer. This course is vocational and is intended for students to explore all aspects of the industry while at the same time completing a nationally recognised certificate. Tourism and Travel is especially suited for students who are considering a career in this sector or for those students who are considering further tertiary training.

The course aims to develop skills and knowledge of this important sector by the completion of Unit Standards.
The course includes the following topics:
* The use of computers in Tourism and Travel.
* New Zealand as a tourist destination.
* Jobs available in the Tourism industry.
* Literacy and numeracy skills for the Tourism industry.
* Tourism key terms and ideas.
* World Geography.
Pre-requisite: 8 credits English Level 1 or approval of HOD.

Course Description: Year 13 Geography develops the ideas covered in Years 11 and 12 to enable the student to understand the natural and cultural processes that shape the world they live in. Skills developed are problem solving, decision making, research and fieldwork techniques and computer analysis. The course involves the study of:
* Natural processes, eg. Coastal processes at Muriwai.
* Cultural processes, eg. Tourism development in Rotorua and Bali.
* Select and apply skills in a geographic context.

This course will involve a one day field trip to Muriwai in Term 1 and a three day field trip to Rotorua in Term 3.
Pre-requisite: Must have 12 credits in Level 2 Geography or 12 credits in Level 2 History or 16 credits in Level 2 English.

Other Costs: $200 for field trips to Rotorua and Muriwai.
