Raranga (Maori Weaving)
A beginners class teaching you the basic techniques of a traditional Maori art form of Mahi Raranga(flax weaving). Covers basic fundamental in Tikanga, kawa, karakia, and history associated with harakeke and Mahi Raranga. Also harvesting, preparation, patterns and dyeing of harakeke. Some basic Te Reo Maori, relevant to mahi raranga. Projects may include making a mobile, whariki (placemats), various putiputi (flowers), a purse, a four corner kete and a back pack.
Class runs in a relaxed and open environment.
