Whole School Assembly.

Whole School Assembly.

Today's whole school assembly was the first of Term 2 and served to remind students that the steps they take now lay the foundations for future academic success.

Principal Shameen Hayat spoke of the importance of this term. “Term 2 is where you build the habits, consistency, and confidence necessary for success, as you build towards exams.”

Crucial for success is attendance. Being on time for every lesson, every day, is expected of every student.

This term's waka value is integrity; this means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. It means holding yourself to a high standard even when you are tired or things feel hard.

Ms. Hayat thanked the Hauora Council for their efforts in organising Pink Shirt Day this Friday. This special day reminds us to stand up and stand together against bullying, always to be kind, and to stand up for what is right.

Students will soon be asked to complete the NCER Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. This National survey helps us to understand what school feels like for our students, what we are doing well, and what we could do better. We encourage all students to fill out the survey thoughtfully.

The Academic Council has organised the After-School Study Centre. Open twice a week, students can access help with their studies from senior students and teachers.

Finally, Ms Hayat addressed Deputy Principal  Ms. Bex Muipu, who leaves us at the end of the week, to focus on her whānau. Ms Muipu is a deeply respected and valued member of our school community. She has worked tirelessly to support our students in every aspect of their lives. Ms. Muipu has played a leading role in our Pasifika Awards and Pasifika Council. She has helped shape a culture of support, pride, and identity. The esteem she is held in by our students and staff was evidenced by the performances that honour her by both the Whānau class and the Niuean Polyfest group. It is no surprise that Ms Muipu has volunteered to come back to school to help with Pasifika events as she is able.

On behalf of us all  Ms. Hayat thanked Ms Muipu for her dedication, her leadership, and the difference she has made to so many lives. She will be missed.

Congratulations to the following students who received Gold or Platinum badges at the assembly.
