Academic Support for Years 11, 12 & 13  (Take it Up)

Throughout the year, every learning area offers a range of academic support opportunities to help students achieve success in their learning. Whether you need assistance to meet course requirements, improve your achievement level, or work towards Merit or Excellence, there is support available.

Support opportunities may include:

  • One-on-one support from teachers
  • Subject tutorials
  • Workshops and catch-up sessions
  • Homework help
  • Assessment and assignment support
  • Draft feedback opportunities
  • Lunchtime, break-time and after-school support sessions
  • Email your teacher
  • Study Centre support after school

All teachers are committed to supporting students to achieve successful outcomes in their courses. Support is available for students studying at NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3, with many departments offering additional subject-specific opportunities throughout the year. If you are unsure about the support available in any subject, or would like help to improve your results, please speak with your teacher. They will be happy to guide you towards the support that best meets your needs.

Study for tests and examinations 

Preparing well for tests and exams makes a big difference to your results. Knowing how to revise is a skill, one that you can learn, practise, and improve over time. This guide is designed to give you practical strategies to help you feel confident and ready to succeed.

OHS Study Centre

Open twice a week, every term for our students.All students are welcome.

Pūhoro STEMM 

Pūhoro supports Māori students in Years 11–13 to strengthen their skills and confidence in STEMM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Mātauranga Māori). Sessions are held every Wednesday during Period 5, where students work with tutors and mentors through engaging activities, academic support, and hands-on learning opportunities.


The programme aims to support tauira Māori to achieve success in their studies while exploring future pathways in tertiary education and high-value careers. Students also have opportunities to participate in termly wānanga, connect with other Pūhoro schools.
