Biking Benefits.

Biking Benefits.

There are benefits to biking to school for students and the environment. Not only does it promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle but it also reduces traffic congestion and pollution. Importantly, biking costs very little!

Last year OHSl was able to purchase a set of bikes, thanks to a generous grant from the Auckland Council Climate Action Fund. For a small deposit students were able to loan one of these bikes, to travel to and from school. There may be some availability again this year for any junior student who would like to make the most of this opportunity. Please see Mr McKay if you are interested.

Year 9 and 10 PE students who are able to ride a bike have been taken by Mr Richard Barter from the Mt Roskill Bike Hub, on a ride around Taumanu Reserve and the Manukau foreshore, to check they have the skills to bike safely. Last week Richard was at school to complete a safety check on all the bikes students had ridden to school, making adjustments, most often to brakes and tyre pressure.

Students taking part have enjoyed their biking experience.
