Diversity Week

Diversity Week

This week has been Diversity Week at OHS. We have over 60 different nationalities represented among students and staff at OHS.

At the whole school assembly this week Principal Ms Shameen Hayat, reminded students how important it is to respect and appreciate differences in ethnicity, culture, gender, ability, and religion; whatever differences there may be, diversity enriches all our lives. Diversity prepares us for life as part of a global society. When we get to know people who are different from ourselves we are less likely to believe stereotypes, prejudice is reduced and community and society bonds are strengthened.

We had the opportunity to purchase food from many different cultures on Thursday, prepared by students and whānau which students and staff greatly appreciated!

We have enjoyed dances and performances from different groups and on Friday students wore their traditional dress to school.

It has been an enjoyable and informative week which enabled new opportunities for fun, learning, and growth.
