Spoken Word at Aotea Centre.

Spoken Word at Aotea Centre.

Congratulations to Kara Belk 12MG, Dennis Mailangi 12Bu, Taylah Stewart 12Ga, Nafisa Bulale 12Gi and Asher McCarten 12Gi, who performed last week at the Aotea Centre in the semi-finals of ‘Word the Front Line’.

They were up against 6 other schools for the opportunity to go through to the Grand Slam Finals. Despite overcoming nerves and having worked hard, they didn’t quite make it this time. All of the poets did an incredible job. Kara and Dennis had one of the strongest comedic poems of the night and enjoyed great audience engagement.

The students relished the experience of being on such an illustrious stage and learned a lot. Taylah explained,” Spoken Word is about being able to affirm your feelings and give power to what you say. We talk about the struggles we face in society, but we can articulate those emotions other people face, but cannot speak up about them”

The team is excited for next year's competitions and has already begun training.
