Senior Drama students were extremely fortunate to have the celebrated Oscar Kightley visit OHS today.

Oscar Kightley has been a regular on our screens for many years. He is a Samoan-New Zealand actor, television presenter, writer, journalist, director, and comedian. Oscar co-wrote and starred in the very successful film, ‘Sione’s Wedding.’  If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing it, or its sequel ‘Sione’s Wedding 2-Unfinished Business’, you should give yourself a treat and watch them!

 The Year 11 students have been working on Oscar’s play, ‘Dawn Raids’, this term, and it was a fantastic opportunity for them to learn firsthand how and why he wrote the play. Oscar also talked about his journey as a creative in New Zealand and gave some inspirational advice on how to get started in the theatre/film world. His main takeaway was to get started now, be the writer, the actor, and the director, not wait for roles to come up; rather, make them yourself.
