Profile- Mr. Joseph Payne.

Mr. Joseph Payne is pleased to be able to serve the teachers and students of the Onehunga High School community.

Mr. Payne joined us as the Lead Mentor – Specialist Classroom Teacher. He brings a wealth of expertise to support all teaching staff, with a particular focus on those who are new to the profession or OHS. His extensive knowledge of educational pedagogy ensures that both students and teachers benefit from a high-quality learning environment.

Mr. Payne began his professional journey while coaching cricket and water polo, eventually deciding to pursue a career in teaching. He spent 12 years at Mt Albert Grammar, where he held several leadership roles, including Head of History and Boarding House Master. He was also a member of the Teaching and Learning group, where he contributed to initiatives that significantly raised student achievement.

Mr. Payne is a valuable addition to our team as we continue to strive for academic excellence grounded in evidence-based teaching practices.
