Never has learning the concepts of mechanical physics seemed more interesting to the Year 13 Physics class, as it did at Rainbow’s End .
The trip was linked to an internal assessment that the students are currently working on where they must –’ Demonstrate understanding of the application of physics to a selected context.’ Rainbows End provided the perfect context!
They observed and experienced real-life examples of rotational motion, a key topic in the assessment. Students observed and analysed how concepts such as angular velocity, centripetal force, torque, and moment of inertia are applied to spinning rides like the Invader, Roller Coaster, Stratosfear, and Fearfall.
It certainly wasn’t all fun and games. Students were kept busy with worksheets that required observation of concepts, problem solving and application of the principles they have been studying.
The students had an enjoyable day, gaining a deeper understanding of how physics principles are applied to ensure safety while still delivering thrilling ride experiences.
