This week, Onehunga High School proudly celebrated Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa – Samoan Language Week with a vibrant programme of activities that brought language, culture, and identity to the forefront of school life.
We had a fun week filled with activities during the week. On Tuesday, we played Lape (Samoan game) and volleyball. Wednesday was our Samoan food market, which was led by our cultural council.
To end the week off, on Thursday our junior school had performances, which was awesome to see our young Samoan students leading the way. We finished the week off with our seniors taking the stage. A huge thank you to our students, staff members who supported and a massive fa’afetai to our wonderful students.
The week highlighted the importance of the Samoan language in preserving cultural identity and fostering a sense of belonging, emphasizing that a strong cultural foundation supports individual and collective success.
