Recently, 28 of our senior Māori students attended workshops at AUT South Campus for Pūhoro students.
The Pūhoro Programme is designed to grow rangatahi engagement in STEMM (Science -Technology-Engineering-Mathematics and Mātauranga Māori). The aim is to develop a community of future Māori technologists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and scientists.
Students learn by doing in this programme and thoroughly enjoyed themselves while being challenged to complete tasks.
Year 11 students learned some of the skills of surgeons, while Year 12 students were introduced to blockchain technology and its impact on the way we design and construct buildings. In contrast, Year 13 students spent time learning about arthropods and examining the body parts of arachnids. In the afternoon session, students discussed their future plans, the opportunities available to them, and the skills they would need as they continue their education.
