Fakatoukatea Student Leadership Dinner.

Fakatoukatea Student Leadership Dinner.

The Year 9 Fakatoukatea Tongan Leadership group hosted their families at a dinner at school on Thursday night.

Each student stood and introduced themselves and their family members to the gathering. It was clear by the courage and dignity with which they held themselves that they were potential future leaders. Standing behind the success of students is the support of their families. Students who know who they are and where they come from, who are grounded in their cultural beliefs and values, are most likely to succeed. The programme encourages students to embrace their culture and to know their ‘why’.

Principal Shameen Hayat spoke of her delight in the impressive 2024 NCEA results of our Pasifika students, who achieved 71% at Level 1, 77% at Level 2 and 78% at Level 3. Ms. Hayat reiterated her commitment to ensuring the academic success of our students, ensuring they have every opportunity for success in their future academic journeys.

A huge thank you to Anahila Kanongata’a and Sosepa Hausia-Schaumkel, who for 11 years have given their time to guide students on this journey. Thank you to Dr. Linita Manu’atu, who has supported the programme from its inception.

Most of all, we would like to thank the parents and kāinga for supporting their children, the programme and the school. Malo ‘aupito.
