Our Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award participants are nearing the end of their training in preparation for the practice Adventurous Journey.
On August 2 and 3, they will hike the Kauaeranga Kauri Trail in the Coromandel Forest Park, staying overnight at the Pinnacles Hut.
Senior student Olivia Clark plays a key leadership role in this process. For the past 10 weeks, she has run weekly training sessions every Friday during Break 2, sharing her knowledge and experience to teach navigation, camp craft, route and food planning, leadership, basic first aid, and equipment use. Olivia also develops all the training resources herself. Her guidance exemplifies a powerful tuakana–teina relationship, where an experienced student supports and uplifts younger peers. Her commitment, initiative, and generosity are making a real difference in preparing the group for their journey.
