Today our Year 11 Drama students took an exciting step in their latest project — devising a performance for young audiences — by visiting two local primary schools to meet the children who will soon be their audience.
The students visited Three King’s Primary and Onehunga Primary, where they spent time with Year 3 classes to learn what kinds of stories, characters, and adventures capture the imaginations of younger children. Armed with notebooks, enthusiasm, and plenty of questions, the Year 11s interviewed the Year 3 pupils in small groups, asking them about their favourite films, TV shows, and what fairytales they were familiar with.
These conversations gave the Year 11 Drama class valuable insight into what their audience enjoys, which will now inspire the devising of an original performance tailored especially for the Year 3 children. The play will be created and rehearsed over the coming weeks, with performances scheduled to take place at both primary schools later this term.
This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity for our students to practise creating theatre with a real audience in mind, developing not only their performance skills but also their ability to listen, adapt, and engage creatively with their community. We can’t wait to see the final performance come to life!
