The roof shout is a tradition on building sites in New Zealand and has become an event to look forward to at OHS. The roof- shout today for our 13th house did not disappoint.
Today we were honoured to have present and former pupils of the building school, staff and representatives from the companies who so generously support the project join us for the roof shout. Riley Letu and Lile-Rose Sinisa, prefects and Construction School students, welcomed the assembled guests. They thanked all the companies that supported the building of the house and explained what a huge impact the building programme has on their lives. They especially wanted to thank the remarkable Mr. Ernie Meyer for his dedicated support of the construction school. Lile-Rose thanked the Head of Construction, Mr David Eastwood, for giving her the confidence and belief to reach any goal; he had truly changed her life. Principal, Shameen Hayat extended her sincere thanks to all past pupils and companies who have given generously to the projects over many years. She thanked Mr. Peter Mayow for the expertise he brings to the building projects.
The project provides students with real experience in the building trades. They gain site safe qualifications and learn skills which provide them and their future employers with tangible benefits.
The project would not be as successful as it is without the support of many individuals and businesses. We wish to particularly thank:
