The Onehunga High School Senior Girls Basketball team can be very proud of their efforts at the 2025 Northern Cup, finishing fourth overall after an excellent week of competition. The girls showed from the very first game that they were ready to compete at a high level, opening their campaign with a nail-biting 49–48 win over Kristin School. Holding their composure in the final moments, they set the stage for what would become an unbeaten pool run.
Their confidence grew with each outing. Against Diocesan, the team controlled the game from start to finish, securing a convincing 54–32 victory. They backed this up with a strong defensive display and accurate shooting in a 64–46 win over Waitakere College. Pool play was rounded off in style as the girls showed their attacking strength to overcome Botany Downs Secondary College 71–45. With four wins from four matches, OHS finished at the top of their pool with the best points differential, a clear reflection of their consistency and teamwork.
Progressing into the playoff rounds, the girls carried that same determination with them. Their performances earned them a place in the bronze medal match against Howick College. In a hard-fought contest that went back and forth, OHS pushed right to the final whistle but narrowly missed out, going down 47–53 to finish fourth overall.
Although just outside the medals, the team’s campaign was filled with highlights and achievements. Going unbeaten through pool play, topping their group, and competing strongly in the finals are all accomplishments to celebrate. The girls represented Onehunga High School with pride, resilience, and skill across every game. Well done for an awesome campaign.
