Congratulations OHS – winners of the U20 Girls Auckland title and 2nd place in the relay.
The fifth and final round of the Auckland Schools Mountain Bike Champs took place at Sanders Reserve, Paremoremo on Sunday 7 September.
Our four OHS riders welcomed the fast rolling, dry gravel trails, which were a big contrast to the muddy slog of previous rounds. Riders faced big climbs, fast descents, BMX style rollers, tabletops, berms, and rock gardens which kept everyone on their toes.
This round also brought the tallying of the season’s results and the crowning of overall champions:
Olivia Clark claimed the U20 Girls Auckland Schools Championship
Gio Minano finished 2nd overall in the U16 Boys
After their individual races, three of our riders — Olivia, Gio, and Louie Gould — teamed up for the schools relay as The Green Machine. In a thrilling race against St Kentigern College, they were narrowly beaten into second place in the Co Ed section by just eight seconds.
