The Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA) has advised of industrial action affecting secondary schools over the coming weeks. Details provided to schools indicate a series of partial strikes and a potential full-day strike.
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Industrial Action – Rostering Home
The Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA) has confirmed a series of strike actions that will affect secondary schools over the coming weeks. This follows ongoing negotiations between the PPTA and the Government that are yet to be resolved. Over the weekend, further industrial action was confirmed to commence on Tuesday, 14 October.
Rostering Home of Year Levels
The following outlines the planned nationwide rostering home schedule for different year levels:
This Week (Week 2):
- ·Tuesday 14 October – Year 9
- Wednesday 15 October – Year 10
- Thursday 16 October – Years 11 and 12
- Friday 17 October – Year 13
This action means that teachers will neither teach nor set work for students on the days that their particular year level is rostered home. Students are encouraged to use this time to complete outstanding work. Senior students (Years 11–13) are expected to revise and prepare for their upcoming NCEA examinations, which begin Tuesday, 4 November. Feedback from school practice exams should help guide their study and identify areas for improvement.
Further Action
Additional industrial action has been proposed as follows:
- Week 3 – Thursday 23 October – Full day strike (Year 11 Prizegiving moved to Tuesday 28 October at 1pm)
- Week 4 – Wednesday 29 October – Partial strike – extracurricular ban
- Week 5 – Wednesday 5 November – Full strike – two hours
Confirmation of these actions will be communicated once further information becomes available.
If supervision is required for a student under 14 years of age, please email Deputy Principal Ms Karen Bellis at [email protected].
Further updates will be provided once additional details are confirmed. Thank you for your co-operation.
