This is a greater leadership opportunity for year 12 students.
Applications are now open for next year’s Peer Support Programme. This is a great opportunity to help welcome our new Year 9 students and play an active role in shaping a positive school culture at Onehunga High School.
Peer Support Leaders will be active throughout Term One 2026. You’ll take part in the Year 9 Pōwhiri and help lead one Year 9 Kaitiaki class each week. After Term One, there are no ongoing time commitments, but we hope you’ll continue to support your group and stay connected.
To have Peer Support Leader recorded on your academic record, you’ll need to attend at least 80% of Kaitiaki sessions during Term One. Outstanding leaders may receive Peer Support Leader with Excellence, and a cup is awarded at Senior Prizegiving.
All Peer Support Leaders must attend a compulsory training day in the week before school starts in January 2026. This will not clash with other leadership training.
We’re looking for students who are:
- Kind and compassionate, able to connect well with Year 9s and sta
- Confident enough to speak in front of a class
- Reliable and always on time
Peer Support Leaders are expected to:
- Attend one Year 9 Kaitiaki class each week during Term One
- Model respectful and positive behaviour
- Wear their Peer Support badge proudly
- Help create a welcoming and friendly school environment — and of course, LAC!
If this sounds like you, apply now and help make the start of high school a great experience for our new students.
Here is the 2026 Peer Support Application Form
Applications close 31 October (Week 4)
