The Pasifika Awards is an eagerly anticipated evening at OHS. Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s ceremony was equally memorable and inspiring.
We celebrated the outstanding achievements of our Pasifika students across sport, academic, service, and cultural categories.
Principal Shameen Hayat spoke proudly of the students’ accomplishments, noting that Pasifika academic achievement levels continue to rise to the highest in the school’s history. She reminded everyone that with success in learning comes greater opportunities and choices in life.
We were delighted to welcome back former student, writer, director, and actor Jason Manumu’a as our guest speaker for the evening. Jason encouraged students to take pride in who they are, to believe in themselves, and to seize every opportunity that comes their way.
Entertainment for the night included a beautiful Tongan dance by Simisi Vaaotangi and an energetic performance by the award-winning Polyfest Niuean group, who once again demonstrated why they are champions. The food was both plentiful and exceptional, adding to the success of the occasion.
This wonderful evening of celebration and community was organised by Ms Aubrey Mason, with invaluable help from students Alofa Lawerence, Tali Feu’u, Isabella Cathro, and parent Tanya Cathro. Their hard work ensured a truly special and memorable event enjoyed by all.
