Teachers’ Win Debate By the Narrowest of Margins.

Teachers’ Win Debate By the Narrowest of Margins.

There was a great turnout of the audience in the school hall for the Term Four ‘Student versus Teacher’ debate.

We cheered on OHS students’ peers and our favorite teachers in a debate of words, as the teams debated whether the legal voting age in Aotearoa New Zealand should be lowered to 16 years. The student team won the popular audience vote, while the teachers won by a slim one-point margin.

AFFIRMATIVE Team: Student Debaters; Ja-bez Halasima, Year 11, Laura McFelin, Year 13, Harley Taufelila, Year 10

Student Adjudicators: Nathan Marshall, Year 11, and Arlo Gould, Year 10.

POSITIVE Team: Teacher Debaters; Mr Burton, Ms Dwane, Mr Payne

Congratulations on a very entertaining and thought-provoking debate.
