Onehunga High School proudly acknowledges Lisa and Sarah Hellyer for their achievements and selection as finalists at the College Sport Auckland Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards.
On Thursday 27 November, Eden Park hosted the 35th Annual College Sport Auckland Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards. The evening brought together outstanding secondary school athletes from across Auckland, recognising dedication, perseverance and excellence at the highest level. With more than eighty thousand athletes competing across the region, being named a finalist is an exceptional achievement.
Onehunga High School was proud to celebrate two remarkable students, Lisa Hellyer and Sarah Hellyer, who were both finalists in the Distance Running category. Their selection reflects a year of impressive results and consistent commitment to their sport.
Lisa Hellyer delivered an outstanding season in 2025. She placed first in the Auckland Secondary School Road Race Championships, showcasing her strength and consistency across road, cross country and track events. Her performances throughout the year earned her selection to the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics and Cross Country teams for 2025, recognising her among the top young endurance athletes in the country.
Sarah Hellyer also had an exceptional season. She finished second in the Auckland Secondary School Road Race Championships and demonstrated determination and steady improvement in all her events. Her results were similarly acknowledged at national level with selection to the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics and Cross Country teams for 2025.
Lisa and Sarah continue to inspire through their discipline, work ethic and the way they support each other in training and competition. Their shared commitment has become a defining part of their progress and success.
We look forward to seeing what 2026 brings for both Lisa and Sarah as they continue their journey in athletics. Their achievements reflect the pride and excellence that define Onehunga High School sport.
