With the school year underway, the Onehunga High School Sports Department is gearing up for a busy Term 1. This is an exciting time for sport at OHS, with a wide range of summer competitions, tournaments, trials, and events on offer. Sport is a valued part of school life, supporting student wellbeing, teamwork, resilience, and school pride. While Term 1 focuses mainly on senior sport, some codes also offer opportunities for junior students.
This term, students can take part in a variety of summer sports, whether they are continuing in a familiar code or trying something new.
Term 1 competition sports include:
- Cricket
- Futsal
- Mountain biking
- Orienteering
- Touch
- Volleyball
- Waterpolo
Junior grades are available in some sports.
Alongside weekly competition, students have the opportunity to represent Onehunga High School at major tournaments and championship events throughout the term. These include:
- Athletics Auckland Championships
- Bowls Pair Championships
- Senior Tag Championships
- Waka Ama Senior Regatta
- Summer Tournament Week
Athletics Day will be held on 3 March and is a key event on the school calendar, bringing students together for a day of participation, house spirit, and friendly competition.
Sports muster meetings are taking place during the first week of term and are the starting point for students wishing to play a summer sport. These meetings provide essential information about each sport, including training expectations and competition schedules. Students are encouraged to check notices in kaitiaki class, their year level Google Classroom, or visit the Sports Department for details.
Senior students interested in volleyball are invited to attend the 2026 senior volleyball trials in the OHS Gymnasium.

- Girls trials • Tuesday 3 February from 3.00pm to 5.00pm • Thursday 5 February from 3.00pm to 5.00pm
