Students who have a particular interest in continuing to develop their skills in rugby, football or basketball can join the OHS Sports Academy. Trials and classes have begun for 2026.
This high-performance programme provides dedicated support for aspiring athletes across key codes, including rugby, football, and basketball.
In an extension to the programme this year, Year 9 students have been able to choose to join academy classes in each of the codes as one of their option subjects. They will have two timetabled classes each week, focusing on the whole athlete and the technical aspects of the game. They will examine the mechanics of each specific sport, and will learn to "read the game" enabling them to make split-second decisions.
All academy students focus on out of school coaching and training and on the mind and mechanics of the sport in the classroom and gymnasium. Nutrition and mental well-being are taught in the classroom, while weight training and other physical strengthening will take place in the gym. Positive personal growth will benefit students by building up self-discipline, resilience, and leadership, and helping them perform in competitions.
We look forward to following our teams this year!
