Welcome to Our 2026 Summer Sport Coaches and Managers
This year marked a special milestone for Onehunga High School as we hosted our first Summer Sport Coaches and Managers Welcome Event for 2026. The gathering brought together the dedicated individuals who make our sports programmes possible, many of whom volunteer their time to connect, collaborate, and hear directly from school leadership about the direction of sport at OHS.
The session was opened by our Principal, Ms Shameen Hayat, who shared her aspirations for strengthening sport across the school and acknowledged the vital role coaches and managers play in shaping the experiences of our students. She emphasised the importance of sport not only as an extracurricular activity, but as a vehicle for building character, community and wellbeing.
Director of Sport, Scott Collins, spoke about the school’s overall sports strategy, reinforcing how closely it aligns with Onehunga High School’s values. A central message of the session was the importance of “getting the basics right”, including attendance, punctuality, and maintaining academic progress. Staff emphasised that when students meet these expectations in the classroom, they are better positioned to succeed on the field, court, or track.
This event provided an important opportunity for coaches and managers to meet one another, build connections, and gain a shared understanding of the school’s vision for sport. Bringing everyone together ensured that our teams enter the 2026 season united under a common purpose and guided by consistent expectations.
Most importantly, thank you to all sports coaches and managers, many of whom give their time voluntarily. Your commitment, enthusiasm, and passion are the driving force behind the growth and success of sport at OHS. We look forward to a successful summer season ahead.
