Success at the Year 11 NCEA Information Evening

Success at the Year 11 NCEA Information Evening

A big thank you to all who attended this year's 'Meet the Senior Leadership, Deans, and Kaitiaki' event held on Wednesday.

The primary focus was the introduction of Level 1 NCEA to OHS Year 11 students and their Whānau.

Year 11 Dean, Sarah Wang, hosted the session focusing on support and strategies to help each student reach their potential.

Deputy Principal and Principals’ nominee for NCEA, Mr Matt Haines, told the audience that NCEA is New Zealand's official secondary school qualification – and can be challenging to navigate when you are new to the process. “We held a pop quiz for whānau to test the audience's existing knowledge of the topic. Correct answers earned sweet treats!”

The evening provided an opportunity to find out about how the qualification works and how to support your teen as they journey through NCEA for the next three years. Topics included: An overview of NCEA, requirements for achieving Level 1, how grades and endorsements  are awarded, literacy and numeracy requirements, and managing the workload.
