A standout championships for OHS, highlighted by two individual gold medals and a team relay bronze.
The North Island Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships in New Plymouth have wrapped up in memorable fashion, with strong performances across all three days from the OHS team.
The event opened on a high note, with Xavier White claiming gold in the Intermediate Boys Short Course. His performance set the tone for the team, who arrived with nine runners and quickly established themselves as competitive across multiple grades. Day one provided a solid platform heading into the long course event at Barrett Domain.
Xavier continued his exceptional form on day two, securing his second gold medal in the Intermediate Boys Championship grade. Supporting performances were equally commendable, with Louie Gould finishing 4th in the Intermediate Boys Standard grade. In the Intermediate Girls Standard, Maya Mendis placed 4th, narrowly missing the podium, while Katherine Broczek secured a top 10 finish in 9th.
The final day featured the team relay event, where OHS delivered a strong collective effort. In the Intermediate Boys relay, last leg runner Xavier White produced a powerful finish to secure third place and a bronze medal, bringing the team’s total to three medals for the championships.
With two gold medals and a relay bronze, alongside several top finishes, OHS can take pride in an excellent campaign at the North Island Championships.
