Walking in Their Shoes: Pasifika Students Explore Careers at Vector NZ

Walking in Their Shoes: Pasifika Students Explore Careers at Vector NZ

Senior Pasifika students gained first-hand insight into future careers through an immersive Careers Day at Vector NZ as part of the SIVA programme.

Our senior Pasifika students recently visited the Vector NZ head office for an immersive Careers Day as part of the SIVA “Walk in Our Shoes” programme. The experience connected our rangatahi with Pasifika professionals across the organisation, including engineers, data scientists, project managers and corporate specialists. Vector CEO Chris Blenkiron shared his personal career journey, encouraging students to make “constant, conscious choices” that bring them closer to their goals.

Students then went behind the scenes into Vector’s control room, learning how Auckland’s electricity network is managed and discovering exciting career pathways in energy, technology and cybersecurity. The day also included visits to key corporate teams, practical CV and interview advice from HR, and opportunities to hear directly from Pasifika staff and recent graduates. Over lunch on the Vector rooftop, students gained valuable real-world insights and inspiration for their futures.

A huge thank you to Teina, Chris and the SIVA team at Vector for supporting and uplifting our students as they envision what’s possible.
