Screenwriter and Director Hamish Bennett Works with OHS Students

Media Studies and English students at OHS explored the film Uproar through interactive workshops and classroom sessions.

Screenwriter and director Hamish Bennett visited OHS, working with our Media Studies and English classes in a series of engaging and thought provoking sessions.

Senior Media Studies students took part in an interactive workshop focused on the film making process, where key stages of production were explored in depth. The session encouraged discussion and gave students a clearer sense of how ideas are developed and brought to the screen. Year 13 student Hal Jackson also had a personal connection to the experience, having appeared as an extra in the film.

Year 10 English students, currently studying the 2023 film Uproar, were part of a dynamic lesson centred on character and theme. Key scenes from the film were presented, allowing students to engage more deeply with the text and gain insight directly from the filmmaker’s perspective.

The visit gave students a valuable and memorable opportunity to explore the creative process and hear authentic, real world insights into life as a writer and director.
