Congratulations to Nerys Fish on her selection for the Cook Islands U16 Girls Football team and her exciting international football journey.
Nerys Fish has become the latest OHS student to step onto the international football stage after being selected for the Cook Islands U16 Girls Football team. The side recently secured qualification through to the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) U17 Girls World Cup Qualifiers main draw. The Cook Islands faced American Samoa and Papua New Guinea in qualifying matches as they continue their journey towards the 2027 FIFA U17 Girls World Cup. Nerys was one of only two New Zealand-based players selected, making it a significant achievement and a proud moment for both her whānau and the OHS community.
Used as an attacking player off the bench across the tournament, Nerys impressed with her energy and skill and will be pushing for a starting role in future campaigns. She has been a regular member of the OHS 1st XI for the past three years and, with two more years still ahead at school, has an exciting future in the game.
We are incredibly proud of Nerys and all she has achieved so far, and we wish her and the Cook Islands team all the very best for the OFC U17 Girls World Cup Qualifiers in the Solomon Islands later this year.
