Year 11 student Gio Minano continued his impressive cycling season with a strong performance against the North Island's best school riders.

After becoming the first Onehunga High School rider to compete at the Northern Tour during Tournament Week in 2025, Year 11 student Gio Minano represented the school at the New Zealand Schools North Island Road Cycling Championships held on the roads between Cambridge and Lake Karapiro.

The opening event was the demanding 54.8km Road Race, where Gio produced a strong ride to finish 12th, completing the course in an impressive time of 1 hour, 33 minutes and 45 seconds.

The second event was the Criterium, with Gio qualifying for the Championship A Grade after strong performances. The race consisted of seven laps around the Karapiro Domain circuit, covering a total distance of 11.2km. Unfortunately, Gio was unable to contest the event.

Gio now turns his attention to the New Zealand Schools Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships and a return to the Northern Tour later this year.
