Congratulations to Year 11 student Xavier White, who added four more medals at the New Zealand Secondary School Orienteering Championships as he continues an exceptional season on the national and international stage.
Congratulations to Year 11 student Xavier White on another outstanding achievement, following an exceptional performance at the New Zealand Secondary School Orienteering Championships held in Christchurch. Competing against the country's best secondary school orienteers across four action-packed days of racing, Xavier once again demonstrated why he is one of New Zealand's top young athletes, achieving the following results:
- 🥇 1st – Intermediate Boys Sprint Champion
- 🥈 2nd – Intermediate Boys Long Distance
- 🥇 1st – Senior Boys Composite Relay
- 🥇 1st – Senior Boys Composite Rogaine (3-hour event)
The relay and rogaine events were contested in composite teams, where students from different schools combine to form a team when their school does not have enough competitors. Despite still being in the Intermediate age group, Xavier also stepped up to compete in the Senior Boys relay.
These results continue a remarkable season for Xavier, who will now focus on representing New Zealand at the Oceania Orienteering Championships and the Southern Cross Challenge/Australian Secondary School Championships in Canberra this October.
Students who are interested in trying orienteering are encouraged to join the local forest events held on Sundays throughout Term 3. Families are welcome, courses cater for all experience levels, and friendly volunteers are available to help newcomers get started. Xavier has even designed one of the courses for the event on 6 September.
