A valuable learning experience ahead of their Drama externals.
Our Year 12 and 13 Drama students recently attended Auckland Theatre Company’s production of Macbeth at ASB Waterfront Theatre. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to extend their classroom learning and support their preparation for their upcoming Drama externals.
Having previously performed Macbeth themselves, students were able to watch the professional production with a strong understanding of the play. They could compare the actors’ interpretations of the characters with their own and consider how different performance choices influenced the way characters, relationships and key moments were presented.
The production also gave students the opportunity to observe how a professional theatre company approached the wider elements of performance. This allowed them to think critically about how acting, staging and other dramatic choices work together to communicate meaning to an audience. Experiencing a familiar play in a professional theatre setting was a valuable way for students to build on their own practical work and develop their understanding ahead of their external assessments.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the production and appreciated the opportunity to experience Macbeth at ASB Waterfront Theatre.
