A season of growth saw our Girls U17 team finish second and earn their place in the final.

The 2026 season marked a new chapter for girls basketball at OHS. Following the departure of several Year 13 players in 2025, returning senior players joined members of the junior team to form a new U17 side. Several new players from netball also joined the team. Isabella Edlin was a standout performer, leading the team in scoring across the season.

The team developed quickly and produced an excellent season. They finished second with an 8 win and 2 loss record. A hard fought semi final victory over McAuley High School secured their place in the final. OHS faced Massey High School in a closely contested final. The girls pushed Massey throughout the game, with only a narrow margin separating the teams at the end. Reaching the final was an excellent achievement and reflected the progress made throughout the season. 

The Girls U17 side was one of two OHS basketball teams to reach a final this year. Their success reflects the continued development of basketball at OHS. The school acknowledges Head of Basketball Matua Anthony Keung for his leadership, along with the coaches and managers for their work throughout the winter. We also appreciate the parents, whānau and friends who supported the team throughout the season.
