Cleo, Harley, Ja-bez and Mariam have impressed against strong opposition.
Our OHS Debating Team is enjoying an excellent run, with three wins from its first three rounds of competition. The team has faced strong opposition, recording victories against two De La Salle teams and an experienced Marcellin College team.
For each debate, the team is given just one hour to prepare its argument. In that time, students must analyse the topic, develop their case, organise their key points and prepare for arguments the opposition may present. Once the debate begins, they must listen carefully and think quickly. Responding effectively to opposing arguments while clearly presenting their own requires confidence, strong communication and an ability to work together as a team.
Cleo Milne, Harley Taufelila, Ja-bez Halasima and Mariam Osman have demonstrated these skills across the competition. Their three consecutive wins reflect both the quality of their preparation and their ability to perform under pressure.
Round Four takes place next Wednesday. We wish the team all the best for their next debate.
