OHS Students Support Remuera Primary Schools Tournament

OHS Students Support Remuera Primary Schools Tournament

OHS students referee netball and hockey for local primary schools.

Onehunga High School students once again supported our local school community, providing referees for the Remuera Primary Schools Cluster Tournament last week. This was the third local primary school tournament OHS students have supported this year. Our students officiated netball at the Auckland Netball Centre and hockey at the Auckland Grammar School turf. The tournament has become a regular part of our sporting calendar and provides a great opportunity for students to contribute to sport within our wider community, while reconnecting with former primary schools and teachers.

The students received excellent feedback from Royal Oak Primary School. Teacher April Purdon described them as “exceptional”, noting how polite, sensible and helpful they were throughout the tournament. Student Amelia Tipama'a also enjoyed the experience, particularly the opportunity to work with the younger students and support their games. She said the group was extremely well looked after by the parents and teachers and would happily return to referee again next year.

Our next community sporting engagement is on 8 September, when OHS students will support Marshall Laing Primary School by refereeing football at the Roskill Zone Tournament at Keith Hay Park.
