OHS Netball Celebrates Outstanding Season

OHS Netball Celebrates Outstanding Season

Six teams, strong results and growing participation marked an excellent year for OHS Netball.

OHS Netball has completed one of its most successful seasons in recent years. Six teams represented the school, the largest number fielded in at least a decade. Every team finished in the top three of its grade, with three teams taking first place. The strength of the programme was evident throughout the season. On three separate occasions, all six OHS teams won their games. Senior A, Year 9A and Year 9B finished first in their respective grades. Year 10A and Year 10B both finished second, while Premier finished third in Senior A Section 2.

Another important development this year was the introduction of the Netball Academy. The Academy has focused on developing the fundamental skills of our junior players and building a strong foundation for their future development. The excellent results achieved by our junior teams reflect the progress being made. A highlight of the season was the dress presentation attended by OHS alumna and former Silver Fern Bailey Mes. It was a special occasion for our players and an opportunity to celebrate the growth of netball at OHS. Our students have worn their new uniforms with pride throughout the season.

The success of OHS Netball has been supported by an outstanding group of coaches, managers, umpires and volunteers. We particularly acknowledge Gina Poila and Shaleece Tuilaepa for seven years of service, Mrs Kate Crews for five years of team management and Mrs Lute Langi for approximately a decade of support. Year 12 Premier players Lily Waenga and Kierah Stevens also coached the Year 9B team to first place.

The season continues for our Premier team, which now turns its attention to the Upper North Island Secondary Schools Netball Tournament in Hamilton. The team will compete with the goal of progressing to the next division.

Congratulations to all six teams on an excellent season.
