OHS mathematicians placed in the top third of the competition.
On Wednesday 19 August, four Year 10 students represented OHS at the Auckland Mathex Competition at Barfoot & Thompson Stadium in Kohimarama. Mich Hart, Ruby Jones, Masini Tuitupo and Archer Wyllie competed against teams from schools across Auckland in the challenging mathematics competition.
Mathex is a fast paced problem solving competition where teams of four have 30 minutes to work through 20 mathematical problems. Students must solve each problem, send a runner to have their answer checked and then move quickly to the next question. With five points available for every correct answer, teams work towards a maximum score of 100.
Our Year 10 team performed extremely well, scoring 80 out of a possible 100 points and placing in the top third of the competition. The result required strong mathematical knowledge, quick thinking and effective teamwork throughout the 30 minute challenge.
Congratulations to Mich, Ruby, Masini and Archer on an excellent result and for representing OHS so well.
