Year 9 Art Students Reframe the Image

Year 9 Art Students Reframe the Image

Mixed media students explored how art can challenge and change visual messages.

Year 9 Art students have been creating mixed media works inspired by Italian artist Naomi Vona. Students explored her technique of drawing over fashion magazine pages and considered how artists can alter existing images to question their original message.

As part of their learning, students discussed feminism in art and considered how images can communicate different ideas and perspectives. They then experimented with paint, pattern and text to reframe the centre of interest and change the meaning of their selected magazine images.

The project has given students an opportunity to combine practical art making with critical thinking about the images they encounter in everyday life. The resulting works show a wide range of creative approaches and individual ideas.
