OHS has always been proud of its talented musicians, who continue to surprise and delight us with inspirational performances throughout the year
Students who would like to develop their musical skills are encouraged to take advantage of the free music lessons offered by our itinerant music teachers. Interested students can register their interest with Mr McGarva in the Music Department. Lessons are available in piano, guitar, bass guitar, drums and percussion, brass, woodwind, and violin. We are also excited to welcome a new voice coach this year for students who wish to develop their vocal technique, confidence, and performance skills.
In addition to individual lessons, students are strongly encouraged to get involved in one of our school music groups. The OHS Choir meets every Tuesday in the hall during Break 2. Our Jazz Band rehearses on Mondays in the music room during Break 2, while the Contemporary Band practices on Thursdays at the same time.
Being involved in the musical life of OHS is a fantastic way to meet like-minded students, have fun, and grow as a performer. This year, OHS will compete in a range of regional and national competitions, including KBB, Stand Up Stand Out, Rockquest, and Play It Strange for aspiring songwriters.
We look forward to enjoying the performances of our talented students this year.
