Students heard powerful personal stories that encouraged them to seek help, support others and recognise the importance of hope.
his week, Onehunga High School welcomed Jazz Thornton, Genevieve Mora and Benji Greenwood from Voices of Hope for a powerful presentation focused on mental health, resilience and hope.
Drawing on their own lived experiences, the speakers challenged the stigma surrounding mental health and reminded students that difficult times do not define their future. They shared the important message that bad days end, hard weeks pass, and that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
A key focus of the presentation was the role every person can play in supporting those around them. Students were encouraged to be a source of hope for others through simple acts of kindness, whether by listening, offering encouragement, providing a hug or simply making someone feel seen. The speakers reinforced that even small actions can have a significant impact on someone's wellbeing.
The presentation concluded with a moving haka performed by OHS students, acknowledging the Voices of Hope team and the important message they shared with our school community.
We sincerely thank Jazz Thornton, Genevieve Mora and Benji Greenwood for sharing their stories with such honesty and courage. Their visit left a lasting impression on our students and reinforced the importance of kindness, connection and looking out for one another.
