Congratulations to our Enviro Group on this well-deserved recognition of its composting, gardening and sustainability initiatives.

Onehunga High School's Enviro Group has been nominated for the Rangatahi Leadership Award at the 2026 Tāmaki Makaurau Zero Waste Awards, recognising the group's commitment to sustainability and environmental leadership.

Hosted by EcoMatters Environment Trust in partnership with Auckland Council's Waste Solutions team, the awards acknowledge individuals, schools and organisations making a positive contribution to waste reduction across Tāmaki Makaurau. The nomination reflects the group's ongoing work in composting, gardening and other sustainability projects that encourage environmental responsibility throughout the school community.

The nomination recognises the work of Nathan Marshall, Arlo Gould, Harley Taufelila, Lydia MacDonald and William Scott, who have worked together to lead the group's composting, gardening and sustainability initiatives throughout the school. Their work is supported by Teacher in Charge, Ms Shelly Plowman, who has guided and encouraged the students' environmental initiatives.

The awards ceremony will be held on 6 August at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre, bringing together nominees from across Auckland to celebrate their contribution to a more sustainable future.
