Gio finished 10th overall against leading U17 cyclists.

OHS cyclist Gio Minano represented the school at the Northern Tour during Winter Tournament Week, competing against strong U17 riders from across the North Island. The demanding competition included four stages: a hill climb, road race, criterium and time trial. Returning for his second year at the event, Gio showed significant progress, finishing 10th overall in his category and recording two excellent top ten stage results.

Gio was particularly strong in the hill climb and criterium, finishing 6th in both events. His road race provided a different challenge when a mechanical chain drop left him riding alone for the remainder of the race without a pack to draft behind. Despite the setback, Gio continued to push through and finished 14th. He reflected that staying positive and refusing to give up were important lessons he would take from the experience into future competitions.

Gio’s performance across the four stages showed the progress he has made since competing at the Northern Tour last year. Taking on different racing formats across a demanding competition provided another valuable opportunity to develop his skills and gain experience against strong riders from across the North Island.
