Students approached this week’s CAA examinations with confidence and focus.

NCEA Common Assessment Activities (CAAs) took place across Onehunga High School last week. These assessments measure the core literacy and numeracy skills required for NCEA. For the first time, OHS entered the entire Year 9 cohort into this assessment round. This reflects our high academic expectations and our focus on establishing strong foundations in reading, writing and numeracy early in secondary school.

Our students approached the assessments with maturity and a clear understanding of what was expected of them. Particular credit goes to our Year 9 students, who experienced NCEA external assessment conditions for the first time. Feedback from students was very positive. Many felt confident about the assessments and well prepared through their classroom learning and the additional support provided through our CAA study sessions and Homework Club.

The way students approached the CAAs reflects the strong academic focus across the school. Attention now turns to our senior students, with Years 11, 12 and 13 beginning their school examinations on Monday 14 September. These examinations provide an important opportunity to demonstrate their learning and prepare thoroughly for the November NCEA examinations.
