Students are transforming their studies of flora and fauna into three dimensional artworks.

Last week, Year 9 Art students continued their exploration of flora and fauna, with a particular focus on native moths and butterflies and flowers of their own choice. Students began by developing pencil and pastel sketches before creating their own printing blocks, allowing them to explore their subjects through different materials, techniques and forms.

The class then moved into sculpture, learning how to translate two dimensional templates and flat paper into three dimensional forms. Using crêpe paper, tape and wire, students created detailed flowers inspired by hibiscus, roses and peonies. The process required students to think carefully about shape, structure and construction as they developed their ideas from initial drawings into finished sculptural pieces.

Once completed, students were able to take their flowers home and give them to someone special, providing a meaningful conclusion to a creative and skilful unit of learning.
