Congratulations to our Pūhoro rangatahi on finishing first across participating South Auckland kura.

The final Pūhoro session of 2026 brought some exciting news, with our rangatahi discovering that OHS had achieved first place across all participating kura in the South Auckland region in the Term 3 STEMM challenges.

Throughout the term, students competed in weekly challenges designed to test their scientific knowledge, teamwork, problem solving and memory. Activities included tower building, memorising the entire periodic table and a range of science knowledge challenges. Finishing first was an outstanding result and reflected the hard work and enthusiasm our rangatahi brought to the programme throughout Term 3. The students now have the difficult task of choosing how to celebrate their success, with Wero Climb, bowling or Rainbow’s End among the options.

The final session was also an opportunity to farewell our Year 13 students, who have been part of Pūhoro for the past three years. It has been wonderful to see them develop their STEMM skills and confidence while becoming role models for our younger rangatahi. We are very proud of what they have achieved and wish them well as they prepare for their next steps. He mihi nui ki a koutou for everything you have contributed to Pūhoro.

A huge ngā mihi nui to Pa Karl, Pa David and all the volunteers who have generously given their time throughout Term 3 and across the year to support our rangatahi with their studies. We also thank Ms Brennan for her leadership of Pūhoro at OHS and for the support she provides to our students. Their encouragement, knowledge and commitment have played an important role in helping our rangatahi grow in confidence and develop their STEMM skills.
